Trainer &

Barn Manager

Elsie (Guenther) Brown has been training horses professionally for the last seven years and has been providing riding instruction for beginners through advanced riders for more than three years. After high school, Elsie earned many scholarships and completed a year of college business classes and was working towards a degree in early childhood education until her lesson and training schedule were filled to overflowing.

Elsie has a lifetime worth of experience packed into her 22 years -- she has a solid foundation and has successfully shown and competed in a wide variety of classes and events. She has shown on the PtHA (Pinto Horse Association) Breed Circuit throughout the Pacific Northwest and at the World Show in Tulsa -- earning numerous All Around High Points, Championships, National Titles, and World Show buckles. Locally, in her younger days, she has shown at the county and state levels in 4H for nine years receiving countless blues, many medallions, trophies and buckles. In high school, Elsie thoroughly enjoyed competing in OHSET (Oregon High School Equestrian Team) both as a performance rider and in timed team gaming events. Additionally, she showed and continues to show on the OHA (Oregon Horsemen's Association) open show circuit competing with numerous High Points and was also the second ever to achieve OHA's Supreme of Supreme honor and the only to do so as a youth.

Elsie has been a full time riding instructor and trainer for the past three years and has developed many riders into successful competitors. Elsie enjoys working with misunderstood horses and has a keen eye for how to fix things in both riders and horses.

Owners

Scott & Christine Guenther

Heritage Hill is owned by Scott & Christine Guenther.  They have been married for 30+ years and have always been busy with a variety of projects.  Scott works full time as a parts manager at the same dealership for the last 32 years.  Christine has been a kindergarten teacher for the past 15 years  in the Silver Falls School District. She is a lifetime member of CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association) and was certified as a Master Riding Instructor in English and Western at the age of 18 -- the youngest ever to be certified at the highest level. CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association) is the largest riding instructor certification organization in North America. She has safely taught hundreds of beginner riders as well as more advanced students competing locally, regionally and nationally.

Christine's background with horses spans more than thirty-five years and includes a wide variety of experiences. Her love of horses began at Canyonview at the age of eleven. She began working there the summer she turned fifteen and worked a total of three summers at the camp and later spent 10 years on the Advisory Board of the Horsemanship College & Camp . After working at Canyonview, she spent the remainder of her teen years and into her early twenties at Warm Beach Christian Horsemanship Camp in Stanwood, WA working as a riding instructor and later as a Program Director. She was the CHA Regional Director for more than 20 years organizing PNW and international conferences for riding instructors and horse professionals from all over the world.

Christine guided several young riders and teens preparing them for competition on the open circuit, Pinto breed shows, 4H, and OHSET (Oregon High School Equestrian Team). She coached Silverton's OHSET ) in a variety of capacities for six years before leaving to focus on Heritage Hill three years ago.

In addition to the above experiences, Christine also has a degree in Elementary Education and has been teaching in the Silver Falls School District for twenty plus years. She has taught for more than 15 years as the kindergarten teacher at Silver Crest Elementary and can't believe she gets paid for doing such a wonderful thing. Christine can be found behind the scenes helping and encouraging.

Testimonials

"Elsie (Guenther) Brown is very knowledgeable when it comes to anything having to do with horses. She knows what it takes to be the best when competing. I trust her completely in selling our horses and tack. She can train and ride any horse and is an excellent teacher. Very experienced and dedicated young woman."

"My recommendation for someone looking for a horse trainer who is cool, calm, and collected is Elsie (Guenther) Brown. She listens to the owner and is sensitive with the horse. Another excellent horse woman who has the best interest of the horse at heart. She has the experience and horse sense to get the best result with both horse and rider!" ~ Sandy Hill

Testimonials

for Christine Guenther

"Christine is a master teacher who is skilled at integrating the curriculum around themes that encompass many concepts and skills. She creates an environment that is on the verge of magical as children move from one learning place to another. It is not unusual to find her students mesmerized by a book Christine is reading to them, to hear them break out in a group song, to see them circling an art activity with enthusiasm or to see a child reading to a chicken. Christine is a gifted teacher of young children. She is knowledgeable about child development and how children learn. Her high expectations for her students and skilled instructional practices enables her students to find social and emotional as well as academic growth."

~ Helen Thomas

Silver Falls School District

Retired Teacher

"Whether it was reading a book out loud to her captive audience or making beautiful music together, watching Christine interact with children in these special times was truly an honor. She quickly laid the groundwork for important and necessary conversations early on and then built with confidence and joy the children’s attention spans and ability to move forward personally and academically daily. This does not happen without a teacher of incredible intention and thoughtfulness. Christine is truly that. She approaches each group of children with an expectation of greatness for each of them. During one of my treasured times in her classroom I was able to witness a former student, now in high school, making a point to seek out Christine during a school visit to reconnect over her own memories and appreciation for the role that Christine had played in her early life. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that this was not an isolated incident for a teacher who cares as much as Christine does!"
